The new LEGO Technic 42239 Batmobile Tumbler takes a very different approach from the usual LEGO Batman display model.
Instead of focusing only on appearance, this 719-piece set turns the famous Tumbler from The Dark Knight Trilogy into an app-controlled LEGO Technic vehicle with steering, lights and a Boost function.
That makes it particularly interesting because it sits somewhere between a LEGO Technic construction set, an RC car and a Batman collectible.

What Makes LEGO 42239 Different?
The biggest difference is simple: this Batmobile is designed to move.
Most LEGO Batmobiles are either minifigure-scale playsets or detailed display models. LEGO Technic 42239 takes another route by making remote-controlled driving the core feature.
Based on the official specifications, the model is less about tiny movie-accurate interior details and more about recreating the heavy, aggressive character of the Tumbler in motion.
For me, that makes this set easier to understand than some hybrid Technic models. The purpose is clear. You build it, connect it to the CONTROL+ app and drive it.
Remote Control Changes the Experience
The LEGO Technic CONTROL+ app allows you to steer the Batmobile from a compatible smart device.
That immediately makes the model more interactive than a traditional Technic car. Once the building process is finished, there is still something substantial to do with it.
This is important because some LEGO vehicles are most interesting during construction and then become static display pieces. Here, the finished build becomes the starting point for another kind of experience.
The Boost Function Is a Clever Batman Touch
One of the features that gives LEGO 42239 its own personality is the Boost function.
It is inspired by the jet-powered character of the movie Tumbler and is paired with lighting effects.
This is the kind of feature that could easily have felt gimmicky on a normal LEGO car, but on the Batmobile it actually fits the source material very well.
The Tumbler was never supposed to be a subtle vehicle, so an exaggerated burst of power feels appropriate here.
How Good Does the Tumbler Look?
From the official images, the overall silhouette is one of the strongest parts of the model.
The wide body, massive rear tires and angular armor immediately identify it as the Tumbler. LEGO Technic panels also work surprisingly well for this particular vehicle because the real Batmobile already has exposed, mechanical-looking bodywork.
That is an advantage compared with smooth supercars, where Technic holes and exposed beams can sometimes interrupt the design.
A Model That Suits Technic Construction
The Tumbler is almost an ideal movie vehicle for LEGO Technic.
Its real-world design looks industrial, armored and mechanical, so visible beams and panels do not feel out of place.
In that sense, the construction system becomes part of the visual style rather than something the designers need to hide.
Display Model or RC Toy?
LEGO 42239 tries to do both, but I think its strongest role is as an interactive Technic vehicle.
At around 31 cm long and 17 cm wide, it is certainly large enough to display. The black armored design should also fit naturally into a Batman collection.
But if you are buying it only to place on a shelf, you may not be using the main feature you are paying for.
Collectors who mainly want a highly detailed static Batmobile may prefer a model designed specifically for display. Builders who want to actually drive the finished creation are the audience that gets the most from 42239.
What I Like Most About LEGO 42239
The biggest strength is that the electronic functions are connected to the identity of the vehicle rather than added just to make the specification list longer.
Remote steering makes sense. Lights make sense. The Boost feature makes sense.
I also like the scale. A 31 cm Batmobile is large enough to feel substantial without becoming a giant model that requires a dedicated display area.
Possible Downsides
There are a few important things to consider before buying.
First, the set relies heavily on the LEGO Technic CONTROL+ app. If you prefer physical remote controls or do not want to use a phone or tablet while playing, this could be a disadvantage.
Second, electronic components usually mean that part of the price goes toward motors, connectivity and the rechargeable battery rather than additional bricks or cosmetic detail.
Third, the model charges through USB-C, but the charging cable is not included. That is a small issue for most people, but it is still worth knowing in advance.
Finally, builders looking for a traditional Technic model with lots of exposed gears, a gearbox or a complex engine mechanism may find the focus on electronic control less appealing.
Who Is LEGO 42239 Best For?
I see three especially good audiences for this set.
Batman fans get one of the most recognizable Batmobiles in an unusual interactive format.
Younger Technic builders get a relatively manageable 719-piece construction with a big payoff once the vehicle starts moving.
And RC and gadget fans get a LEGO model that offers more after the final brick is attached.
Who Might Prefer Another Set?
If your main priority is movie accuracy and shelf presence, a dedicated display Batmobile could make more sense.
If you want maximum Technic complexity, you may also prefer a larger car with a gearbox, suspension and detailed drivetrain.
LEGO 42239 is strongest when viewed as a remotely controlled Batman vehicle rather than a miniature engineering showcase.
Is the App Control a Strength or a Weakness?
That depends almost entirely on how you use LEGO.
For families and younger builders, app control can make the finished model much more exciting. Instead of the building experience ending after the last step, the model becomes something you can actively drive.
For traditional LEGO collectors, another screen and another app may feel unnecessary.
So this feature is not automatically positive or negative. It simply makes the target audience much clearer.
LEGO 42239 Size
The completed Batmobile Tumbler measures approximately 11 cm high, 31 cm long and 17 cm wide.
Those proportions should give it plenty of presence without making storage or display particularly difficult.
My Take on LEGO Technic 42239
Based on the official images and features, LEGO Technic 42239 looks like one of the more distinctive Technic releases because it does not simply repeat the usual sports-car formula.
Its biggest advantage is the combination of a famous vehicle and functions that genuinely suit that vehicle.
The main question is whether you actually want the electronic features. If the answer is yes, the Tumbler has a strong reason to exist. If you only want a static Batman collectible, there are likely better ways to spend the same budget.
For me, the most interesting idea here is that the finished model is not the end of the experience. Building the Batmobile is only phase one. Driving it is phase two.
